Drummer for Antonio Orozco: From a Single Gig to a Gold Record

Being Antonio Orozco's drummer has been an inspiring and enriching experience. Sharing both the stage and the recording studio with one of Spain's most prominent artists has allowed me to experience unique moments. This journey began back in 2012, at a time when I was unaware of the incredible projects that lay ahead. During those years, I had the pleasure of recording for international artists such as John Legend and Paul Carrack, as well as national figures like Manuel Carrasco. However, recording drums for Antonio Orozco held a special significance for me.

The collaboration started in mid-2012 following a call from my friend Toni Pagés, who asked if I could fill in for him during a concert in Granada. I accepted without hesitation. I still remember that day vividly: a sold-out stadium, 40ºC in the shade, and a high-stakes performance in front of 5,000 people. Sharing the stage with musicians like Jordi Franco and John Caballés made the task much easier. After the show, Antonio Orozco offered a warm embrace in appreciation, marking the start of a defining chapter in my career.

A few days later, I was formally offered the position of permanent drummer as Toni Pagés moved on to other projects. I joined the tour immediately, travelling across Spain with a very cohesive band. The connection within the group was so strong that we sounded as if we had been playing together for a lifetime. A simple look from Orozco was enough to know the next musical move, and this synergy eventually led to the recording of the album Destino.

Once confirmed as the drummer for the record, we began by recording two songs in a studio in Europe. Shortly after, I received the news that the remaining drum tracks for the album would be recorded in my own studio. I am deeply grateful for the trust shown by producers Xavi Pérez and John Caballés throughout this process.

The album Destino achieved gold status in less than 48 hours, becoming a major success in the industry. As of 2026, having shared the stage and recorded with Antonio Orozco on numerous occasions remains a highlight that has significantly contributed to my growth as a session drummer. Working with an artist of this calibre has been a deeply rewarding experience, and I look forward to continuing this musical journey.
